Quick Observation and Question About The US Postal Service Stopping Saturday Mail Delivery

– Since the volume of the mail that normally gets mailed on Saturday will still be the same, if they stop Saturday delivery and the Saturday mail still has to  be delivered on Monday, doesn’t that mean letter carriers are going to have to deliver twice the mail on Monday and in essence are working for FREE to deliver 2 days mail in one day?

Sounds like overtime pay is in line for Mondays unless the Post Office Thinks workers are stupid! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Question About Pa. Liquor Store Privatization: What Happens to The 5000 Workers Mr. Governor?

Question: In the Governor’s Quest for liquor store privatization, What happens to the over 5000 men and women who work in Pennsylvania’s Wine and Spirits System who will all be losing their jobs?

Any Thoughts Mr. Governor and members of the The Pennsylvania House’s Liquor Control Committee who voted for this unprecedented job killing legislation?

“This is one of the worst job-killing bills in my memory to be approved by the State House of Representatives, and I have been around here for more than 30 years.  How can anyone vote in good conscience to throw thousands of dedicated, hard working men and women, and their families on the unemployment lines, especially when Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is going up. We urge the leaders and members of the State Senate to reject this cruel, heartless, job-killing legislation and support a reasonable alternative – modernization – which protects good jobs, protects public health and safety, and best serves the taxpayers and consumers,” Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale said.

Four Things New Union Members Need To Know When They Join Their Union

1. Your union card represents more than just you. Understand that your union card represents standards and working conditions that have been achieved by previous generations of hard-working and dedicated union members who have given blood, sweat, tears and even their lives to achieve the conditions you now enjoy. It’s your turn to preserve and advance their legacy and pay it forward to future members and generations.

2. Your voter registration card is your lifeline. In today’s volatile climate where anti-union politicians are coming out of the woodwork to get rid of unions, a union member’s right to vote for those candidates who support their union standards is often the only thing standing in the way of them and the end of their livelihood. If you don’t vote, don’t complain!

3. Your commitment to TAKE ACTION and support your union’s political agenda is required. Each union has a political and legislative agenda that goes hand in hand with protecting and procuring work and a future for its members. It’s each member’s responsibility to TAKE ACTION in SOLIDARITY to help campaign, demonstrate and participate in whatever way possible to assist your union’s political endeavors.

4. Your work ethic is paramount. In today’s environment of cost cutting and hiring non-union workers, union workers have to work even harder to provide a quality product that far exceeds the quality of non-union workers. We need to give employers a reason to always want to hire union workers.

New City GOP Player Launches Pro-Labor Political Action Committee!

Tim O’Brien is back in the city GOP political game. The 20-year incumbent bail commissioner and arraignment court magistrate judge is talking about some very interesting new strategies. First of all, O’Brien believes the city party should completely abandon the national GOP platform. “The policies of the national party are killing us in urban areas. We need a short and direct platform that appeals to the working man and woman.” When asked what that platform will be, O’Brien didn’t hesitate. He said, “The agenda would and should be as follows: 1. Law and order/public safety; 2. Lower property taxes; 3. Stronger schools; 4. Efficient city services…” Then he saved the best for last: “…5. Pro-labor.” O’Brien said good wages and health care benefits equals strong families. O’Brien has wasted little time. At the time of this story he will be the chair of “The Philly Future Fund,” a political action committee that he said will support “Pro-labor Republican candidates.” O’Brien also shared his ultimate goal: “To have a city union member step into the voting booth and have a hard time deciding between the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate, because they are both solid, labor-friendly candidates.”
