UNION INVOKES LEGACY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING’S FIGHT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AS THEATER PREPARES TO OPEN PLAY ABOUT DR. KING’S FINAL HOURS
WHO: Members of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees Local 8 (Stagehands), led by President Mike Barnes.
WHAT: A sidewalk press conference to announce the Stagehands’ strike against the Philadelphia Theater Company (Suzanne Roberts Theater). The management of the Philadelphia Theater Company is guilty of hypocrisy in putting on a show about the last days of Dr. Martin Luther King – a man who lived and died for the cause of social justice – at the same time they are threatening the job security of the men and women who make the theater work. IATSE Local 8 is walking in Dr. King’s footsteps by walking the picket line in protest of the Philadelphia Theater Company’s anti-worker policies.
